Know Before You Go:
This trail is a gravel path that is easy to follow; a perfect family-friendly trail that offers the opportunity to see spawning salmon and at times, local fishermen.
See leaping salmon from the overlook platform and take the unpaved trail to the right to head to the lower falls (additional 0.5 mi) for a chance to see black and brown bears catching salmon.
The optimal time to see the salmon run is from mid June to late July.
The Russian River drains into the Kenai River.
This is a very popular spot and parking can fill up quickly, there is an overflow lot farther from the trailhead.
Upon arrival, pay the parking fee at the entrance booth (in-person attendant).
