Know Before You Go:

  • This trail is a gravel path that is easy to follow; a perfect family-friendly trail that offers the opportunity to see spawning salmon and at times, local fishermen.

  • See leaping salmon from the overlook platform and take the unpaved trail to the right to head to the lower falls (additional 0.5 mi) for a chance to see black and brown bears catching salmon.

  • The optimal time to see the salmon run is from mid June to late July.

  • The Russian River drains into the Kenai River.

  • This is a very popular spot and parking can fill up quickly, there is an overflow lot farther from the trailhead.

  • Upon arrival, pay the parking fee at the entrance booth (in-person attendant).
