Know Before You Go:
Possibly the most heavily trafficked trail in all of O’ahu, Diamond Head Crater sits right outside the Honolulu city center.
It was built in the early 1900s as part of O’ahu's coastal defense system. Now it is part of the Diamond Head State Monument covering 475+ acres, including the inner and outer slopes of the crater.
This is a family-friendly trail and do-able in sneakers. However please note: dogs are not allowed.
The parking lot is often full by 8:30am, if you are unable to find a space, park in a residential neighborhood nearby and walk to the trailhead. It is not uncommon for people to taxi to the trailhead.
The $5 day-use fee can be purchased upon arrival via a credit card machine and will be checked upon entry.
