Know Before You Go:
This is the most popular and crowded hike at the Grand Canyon. Park in the Maswik Lodge lot, Backcountry Office, or find roadside parking and walk to the trailhead.
Alternatively you can take the shuttle to the trailhead.
By far the hardest day hike one can do at the Grand Canyon; only recommended for experienced hikers as the trail grade is extremely steep.
The heavy crowds thin out after hitting the bottom of the canyon.
Micro-spikes are necessary during the winter season since the trail freezes over.
Carry lots of water, snacks and sun protection as the trail is completely exposed.
This out + back hits the Colorado River; feel free to turn back at any point.
Bathrooms and water refilling stations can be found at several points along the trail.
Be sure to save energy for the final ascent! Make sure to allot enough daylight for the return trip.
