Know Before You Go:

  • A shuttle ticket is often necessary to enter the Zion Canyon portion of the park as private vehicles are not allowed to drive this road during the busiest times of the year, typically Mar-Nov. Check the Zion Shuttle Guide for a more accurate and up-to-date timetable and details on how to obtain a reservation.

  • There are two ways to complete this trail: top-down and bottom-to-top. The top-down route requires a permit. This review is for the second option.

  • This famous trail is usually not done in full; most hikers complete a mile or two and turn around.

  • During the colder months, it is highly recommended to rent gear (drysuit, boots, poles) from a local company.

  • The water levels can reach as high up as your neck on some portions of the trail.
