Know Before You Go:
Purchase your pass/day use fee before arriving at the trailhead.
While you can drive directly to Loowit Point during the summer season when the road is open, this makes for an excellent shoulder season hike to have the magnificent views all to yourself.
The trailhead is accessible year round but you will definitely encounter snow as you climb to the viewpoint so bring snowshoes or micro-spikes.
Bring layers as this area is exposed and can be quite windy.
You'll get great views of Mount St. Helens the entire way as well as glimpses of Mt. Adams and the Goat Rocks to the east.
On the return trip you can either hike back the way you came or you can combine it with the rest of the Hummocks Trail to complete the loop.
